Brightwater House

Brightwater House in Forks, Clallam County, United States | Bed and Breakfast

Located in the Conservancy zone on a big bend of the Sol Duc River, Brightwater House in Forks, Washington, United States is surrounded by 60 acres of natural habitat and 3500 feet of river frontage. Brightwater House is on the site of an 1882 homestead, but evidence demonstrates that this prime spot has been habitated for thousands of years. This secluded homestead was purchased in 1990 by the Chesmores to create a refuge for people seeking nature and fly- fishing opportunities.

The name "Brightwater House" in Forks, Washington, was conceived from two sources. The Sol Duc River, which runs beside it, is an Indian term meaning "sparkling waters." In addition, Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers have led the effort to sustain "bright waters" from coast to coast. Our name honors this quest.

Our contemporary house has beautiful views from every window. Walls are decorated by the work of local flyfishing, wildlife and northwest coast artists.

The River Room is the common sitting room overlooking the Sol Duc River. An extensive library featuring fly fishing, local history and prehistory and other topics is available for guests. There is a wood stove to take the chill off rainy days. A large deck extends out from the River Room allowing a pristine view of the river ecosystem.

The bedrooms are spacious with comfortable sitting areas. One room has a fireplace, another an outside entrance to a deck looking over the river. Rooms include queen-sized beds and good reading lamps. One room has a additional single bed and one a pull-out queen couch for an extra person.

Without leaving the property, guests can enjoy hiking trails, bird watching, relaxing on the river beach and fishing. Deer, elk, and coyotes are regular visitors.

Your hosts and riverkeepers, Richard and Beth Chesmore, provide personal service to insure the pleasure of your stay. Food is prepared according to your taste. We arrange fishing guides, and assist with plans for hiking the many Olympic National Park trails. Your host, Richard, is an archaeologist with knowledge to share with guests on the history and prehistory of the Olympic Peninsula.
