Welcome to The Boathouse Restaurant in Cheboygan
Located right at the marina, The Boathouse Restaurant is famous for its local fish and steak entrees! Great service is provided by long-term staff who know how to make you feel right at home. The main dining room offers casual dining and a full menu with Boathouse specialties like Honey Pecan Walleye and Parmesan Encrusted Whitefish.
Originally a fully-functioning boathouse built in the 30s, the restaurant offers the only outside deck seating overlooking the water on the entire inland water route and within 50 miles by land or sea!
The Rumrunners Lounge is a nice little bar located in The Boathouse Restaurant. Outdoor seating, visits from our musical friends to entertain us in the summer, it's own tasty bar menu, and specialty drinks make this a perfect place to meet up with friends after a great day of boating. Stop in and enjoy the fun atmosphere and hospitable service.
Ever hear of the infamous Purple Gang out of Detroit? These rum running, murderous, modern-day pirates were rumored to have based their Northern operation out of the boathouse they built. With easy access to Canada and a place to conceal their high-speed boats used to run contraband, they ran their "business" out of this location for years. Gang member Mert Wertheimer has left behind a fascinating legacy you can feel while dining at what is now The Boathouse Restaurant. Much of the original boat hoist equipment can still be found overhead.
