Beauvoir

Beauvoir in Biloxi, Harrison County, United States | Museum

Beauvoir, the Biloxi, United States beachfront Museum devoted to the life and times of Jefferson Davis, plans to reopen as a house Museum on June 3, 2008, on the 200th anniversary of Davis’s birth! In addition, a National Historic Landmark, the 1850’s Beauvoir House is undergoing a $3.9 million restoration. Plans also include rebuilding The Jefferson Davis Presidential Library, the only other surviving building on the 51-acre estate.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Confederate Soldiers Museum, both the library pavilion and the Hayes Pavilion, and the replica of the soldiers barracks.  On February 10, 2007, the Beauvoir Combined Board approved a new five year Master Plan to rebuild the Beauvoir Biloxi site, bigger and better than it was before Hurricane Katrina struck Beauvoir House Museum.

Beauvoir, circa 1852, is the stunning home of the only President of the Confederate States of America and the place where he penned his memoirs. The 51 acre estate, fronting the Gulf of Mexico, was also the site of the Mississippi Confederate Soldier’s home which cared for hundreds of veterans and their wives.
