Ama-krokka Bed & Breakfast in De Kelders, Gansbaai, Overberg, Whale Coast, Western Cape, South Africa

Ama-krokka Bed and Breakfast, being in De Kelders, faces west overlooking Walker Bay - the only Whale Nature Reserve in the world. This location also ensures that you are privy to the most spectacular African sunsets.

Gansbaai is part of the Cape Overberg region, the Western Capes' Whale Coast Route, that lies on the southernmost tip of Africa. It is a part of the world where nature is still pristine and its abundance can be enjoyed without any effort at all. The land is covered with fynbos, the sea is an incandescent blue, the Beaches are immaculate and the air pure. Marine and bird life abound in this temperate environment. You can simply sit on the deck and you'll see the whales in the bay a myriad of birds.

There are many things to see and do in de Kelders, Gansbaai and in the nearby area. Closest to home are the famous Klipgat Caves a 15 minute walk from Ama-krokka B&B.

Shark Diving is very popular with adventure travelers and cage Diving as well as surface viewing trips can be arranged with local shark Diving tour operators. The awesome cliffs of De Kelders (meaning the cellars) attract visitors and professional photographers every year from June to January for undoubtedly the best land based viewing of our magnificent Southern Right Whales. Local boat-based Whale Watching tours are available for those who would like to have a more intimate experience with these magnificent animals and other marine life. Hikes on the mountain among the Fynbos are magical and spectacular.

A walk in the harbour at sunset with the nostalgic cries of seagulls and slow moving Fishing trawlers on the horizon is a soothing cure for stress. There are a variety of trails in the Gansbaai area that vary from 5,5 km to 14 km on inland farms, and 7 km along Coastal trails with endless views of the Atlantic over Walker Bay. 4 X 4 trails, exploring the local wine routes and bird watching are also popular with visitors to Gansbaai. Most interesting however is the archaeological site of the Klipgat Caves.
