The picturesque Altes Zollhaus Restaurant is a wonderful place to daydream. The garden blooms beautifully in the summer on the Spree canal where the ships sail by. During the winter months one can comfortably sit by the tiled stove in the large, rustic guestroom.
The guestroom at Altes Zollhaus Restaurant, with its flower arrangements and landscpae art offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and can accommodate 50 guests.
The “Schmugglerscheune” (smuggler’s barn), unique in Berlin, is an event room with space for 30 to 90 guests. The entire house can be rented for private events with as many as 160 guests. Conferences can also be held here, individually designed, with the use of modern technical equipment.
Around the turn of the last century, Altes Zollhaus Restaurant was used as quarters and depot for the sanitation department, after that as payment and control office for the steamers and other ships coming down the Spree canal. After being burned down in the Second World War, the half-timbered house was fully restored in 1979.
Under the direction of Herbert Beltle, a rustic, country style refuge has been created for Berliners in need of a break from bustle of Berlin's big city bustle.
Altes Zollhaus Restaurant was awarded the highly respected “Kochmütze” award by the renowned restaurant guide, Gault Millau, for its continual excellent gastronomic performance.
