THE STORY OF THE ALHAMBRA

(A Spanish Palace built in the fourteenth century on an incomparably beautiful site overlooking the town of Granada with the snow covered Sierra Nevada rising 12,000 feet behind).

"The Alhambra was conceived for a life of luxury, love and merry making." The Moors conquered Spain in 713A.D. They established a cultured, sophisticated and broad-minded state - religion was free: women had equal educational opportunities; libraries, universities and observatories flourished - a state where poets abounded and musicians were great men. Above all life was interpreted as something glorious to be enobled by learning and enlivened by every imaginable pleasure.

ALHAMBRA RESTAURANT AND BAR, PONSONBY .........established 1982 - situated in the former "Britannia" Movie Theatre building. Today old Classics and Contemporary Films on the movie screen keep the theatre alive.

Alhambra has superb views. At night the lights of the city are spectacular.

Live music featuring Jazz, Rhythm 'n' Blues and Latin Rhythm is a special attraction at Alhambra.

The Chefs at Alhambra use only the best available produce. The fusion of NZ food with Mediterranean and Spanish influences creates a diverse menu. Paella is a feature dish.

Tapas (small dishes) are served in the Bar.

Special parties and Functions for small of large groups are arranged with ease. Alhambra offers an extensive list of cocktails, wine, beer and non alcoholic drinks.

Alhambra has off street parking at the rear of the Restaurant. To access the car park, turn into Margaret Street at the top of College Hill by "Colenso". The car park is at the end of Margaret Street on the right. From there guests can walk up and into the Restaurant.
