About Jamaica

Jamaica is perhaps best known for its miles of white sand beaches stretching out into paradise. Inland Jamaica is emerald rain forests and waterfalls from more than 120 rivers that tumble into cool, clear streams. The fabled Blue Mountains dominate the eastern end of the island, and create perfect growing conditions for high-quality coffee. Jamaica was originally inhabited by a people called the Arawaks, who gave the island its name. The Arawak name "Xaymaca" means "Land of Wood and Water". The vibrant Jamaican people are the island?s greatest assets. The legendary "cool" of Jamaican culture is heard in its reggae music popularised by Jamaica?s most famous son, Bob Marley. Rastafari is the most famous religious movement of the Caribbean. Ras Tafari is an ancient title given to all Ethiopian Kings. Their line is believed to be a direct link to King David and followers believe they are the original Lost Tribes of Israel that were once scattered by Babylon. The crowning of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1930 was seen as the fulfilment of a biblical prophecy.This is Jamaica.
