Welcome to Bering Strait School District BSSD, Wales Alaska

This should be an exciting year. The health of the Bering Strait School District has never been better. Test scores have never been higher, teacher turnover is at one of the lowest levels, school construction is going strong and school funding is improving. All of this is possible because of students, parents, staff and community support.

With everyone working together to improve student achievement, great things are happening. During the 2007-08 school year, we will continue to make improving student achievement as the top priority. We will work hard to build partnerships within each village, the region and the state to help us meet the needs of all students.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of summer as we begin to get ready for the first day with students. I know that we will all do our best to make sure the year gets off to great start and that we will continue to build on our successes.

The Little Diomede staff like any other school in the Bering Strait School District began their planning for the next school year this spring. Unlike the other schools in BSSD they took their planning to the Russian Front. Nestled along the international dateline the Principal Elise and four teachers worked up a plan to engage the minds of next year's students. We hope the invigorating fresh air and the Russian backdrop helped this adventurous staff to develop a plan that will raise achievement in this little community.
