Alaska is the largest state in the USA. (It is vast . one-fifth the size of the rest
of the whole USA!) Separated from the other states by Canada, Alaska may as well be
another country. It is a sweeping and unpredictable land, from rugged mountains and
glacier-carved valleys to steep, rocky coastlines.
Alaska features 6 climatic regions, from dense lowland forests, to frozen tundra and
towering glaciers. This is one of the America's last wilderness areas where much of
the wildlife still roams free. Here you can catch a glimpse of a humpback whale
breaching, the salmon migration upstream or the huge bears that feast on them. And
where else do polar bears roam in your back yard?
Alaska comes from the Aleut word Alyeska meaning "the great land". Here you can
experience nature at its best and get to know indigenous people who still live by
traditional ways. This is Alaska.
