Welcome to the Fogas Restaurant, Siofok, Hungary. The Fogas (Pike-perch) Restaurant awaits you!
The building that hosts the Restaurant would have been declared a monument a long time ago in the United States.
The Fogas Restaurant was built by the Hungarian Imperial and Royal Post and it was meant to be a post office offering some time off and it had several purposes.
It was a post office and at the same time, for those arriving on the diligence, it was a place for having a hot meal, a glass of wine, a glass of beer or some refreshments. The horses were put up in the stables that were found on the site of today’s terrace and winter garden. There was a carriage-stable and even a blacksmith as well.
In 1926 the post office was moved into the next building, because the only three-storey “Post Office Palace” of the region was built on the plot to the east of the old building.
Since then on it has developed continuously, as the wine-merchant family that bought the building and the owners succeeding them in a few years turned the once very simple Restaurant offering one-course meals into the favourite place of the middle-class of that time. Today this is the Fogas Restaurant, Siofok, personalised by the gold of Lake Balaton.
