The Willows

The Willows in Palm Springs, Riverside County, United States | Inn

The Willows Palm Springs. Einstein dreamt here. Built in 1924, The Willows soon became the winter estate of Samuel Untermyer, famous New Yorker and the first attorney to make a million dollar fee for a single case. Striking architecture is enhanced by mahogany beams of the great hall, frescoed ceilings of the verandah and the mountain waterfall that spills into a pool just outside the stone-floored dining room. These unique features delighted many distinguished visitors. Marion Davies, life-long companion of William Randolf Hearst, made her home here. Clark Gable and Carole Lombard honeymooned here. Jimmy Walker, notorious Mayor of New York, hid out here. Shirley Temple played here. And, Albert Einstein really slept here as the guest of his friend, Samuel Untermyer. The Willows Palm Springs has been meticulously restored to its former grandeur, refinement and elegance. Eight guest rooms feature antique furniture, sumptuous linens, luxurious private baths, hand-made tiles, stone fireplaces, hardwood floors, private garden patios, and mountain and garden vistas. Modern amenities include dataport telephones, cable television, VCR, CD players and individual room climate control. Guests will enjoy a full gourmet breakfast, afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres, exquisite gardens, swimming pool and spa.
