The Mucky Duck in Captiva Island, Lee County, United States | Restaurant

The Mucky Duck opened for business on Janary 29, 1976. At the time of purchase, the building was being used as a private 3 bedroom home. In the early 1930's, it was a tea house known as the Gulf View Inn. There were a few cottages and the small inn that served beer and wine.
Over the years, and because of beach erosion, the building was moved back about 300 feet. Eventually the Gulf View Inn was closed and later sold. The subsequent owners turned the small inn into a house. It remained as such until 1975. The Mayerons and the Webbs purchased the beach house thinking that rental property could be a success on Captiva Island. While at the Fort Myers court house inquiring about the beach rental property, Mayeron and Webb were informed of an expired beer and wine license which could be reactivated if they wanted to pay $100.00. Of course they did!
Everyone was excited now about the idea of opening a Restaurant. Webb, having been a bobby in London for 20 years, had the idea of an English pub. He and his wife remembered and old English pub in Startford-On-Avon called the Black Swan which they used to frequent. It was known to the locals as the Mucky Duck. So was born the Captiva Mucky Duck. When first opened. it boasted a dart board and a game room. The Duck was a true local spot to savor cold beers, play darts, enjoy beautiful sunsets and sing along with the old player piano til the wee hours of the morning. The menu was limited to English dishes and seafood.
The Mucky Duck is the heart of downtown Captiva, where the sun sets nightly. Here's to the future of this island tradition whose pride and fame is shared with friends throughout the world. To all of you - thank you for the past and future support for years to come.
