Sue and Jerry from New York offer you a warm welcome to Compston House, an American style B&B in Ambleside,  where you can enjoy full American breakfast with homemade pancakes, or full English breakfast, and where the furnishings and decor have a distinctly American style.

Decorated and furnished to a high standard, Compston House is warm and comfortable. All rooms are centrally heated, and fully en-suite, and feature colour televisions, tea making facilities, hairdryers, alarm clock radios, and fresh towels daily

Sue and Jerry are native New Yorkers, who quit the ‘‘rat race’’ of their corporate jobs to run a Bed and Breakfast in this beautiful part of the United Kingdom.  They opened Compston House as an American-style B&B nine years ago, and they’re still smiling.

Sue loves to cook and makes her own pancakes, fresh and hot everyday,  just as good (some guests say even better) than you’d get in the States.  She also cooks up a great full English breakfast! And, Jerry’s Brooklyn hospitality will make you smile as he asks ‘‘How you doin’?’’Sue does all the cooking herself, although Jerry makes lovely toast!

Breakfast is cooked fresh to your order every morning, there is no need to pre-order,  just give Jerry your order in the dining room each morning. You can have a full American breakfast, a full English breakfast, or anything in between.

The pancakes Sue makes are fresh and homemade, using an authentic American recipe.  Sue can also make wheat free/gluten free pancakes.  The blueberry muffins, which Sue makes every Sunday, are also homemade and baked fresh for you that morning.    So if you go home hungry, it’s your own fault!
