Over a million years ago, mantles of ice covered Northern Italy, with only the highest peaks emerging. Mount San Primo was one such peak and today its tip is graced with the town known as Bellagio. Throughout the ages, Bellagio has been desired and occupied by many people and cultures. By the eighteenth century, Bellagio was the most widely known retreat on the Lario and was gradually transfigured into a series of resplendent gardens. By the twentieth century, grand resorts and smaller palaces dominated the town. This jewel of the Larian region faces snow-capped mountains, but is also blessed with a Mediterranean-like climate in the summer. It's winding streets lead down to the beautiful Lake Como.
