Kuaotunu
Kuaotunu - once a thriving gold mining town, has clean, safe, white sandy beaches, is also handy to many other beautiful spots and is an ideal starting point for exploring other parts of the Coromandel Peninsula. There's bush walking, fishing, horse trekking, water sports, golf, tennis or just simply relaxing in one the world's truly spectacular places. A little over 100 years ago, gold was discovered at Kuaotunu and more than 1000 people lived and worked there. Kuaotunu is just 17km north of Whitianga.

Kuratau Beach
Kuratau is formed around a natural sand spit and the Kuratau river mouth. Kurataus' gently sloping terrain provides great view over Lake Taupo and the snow capped Kaimanawa ranges. Sheltered from the prevailling winds, Kuratau is ideal for boating, safe swimming on soft white sand as well as fishing and walking tracks. Kuratau is also a great base for the winter snow skiing on Mount Ruapehu and winter fishing on the mighty Tongariro river.

Tairua
The volcanic peak, Paku, and off shore views of the jagged Aldermen Islands are the natural focal points of the Tairua area. Large areas south of the river, between Pauanui and Wharekawa Harbour (Opoutere), are dominated by exotic forests.
