Bangor in Penobscot, Maine, lies on the Penobscot River and has a long history going back with the lumber and shipbuilding industries, eastablished in the mid 1800's. This city boasts famous author and resident, horror writer Stephen King, and the 31-foot statue of legendary lumberjack Paul Bunyan still stands tall today, there are also federal style mansions which were constructed duning the lumber boom. Bangor is Maine's third largest city and a great place to stop while on your way to Maine's northern woods, Down East region, or Mount Desert Island.
