Del Mar "Where the turf meets the surf". Del Mar means "by the sea", and is located 18 miles north of downtown San Diego via Interstate 5. The main attraction of visitors is still the beach and sunny weather. Of course, the annual Del Mar Fair and the well-known Del Mar Racetrack bring in people from the surrounding area and beyond. Del Mar is an invitation to come and explore its beautiful wooded hillsides, magnificent beaches, romantic restaurants, fascinating shops and beautiful homes. Also San Diego Polo Club is situated in one of the most beautiful areas in the world and has Polo's perfect climate. The Club is located adjacent to Rancho Santa Fe, near the Del Mar Racetrack and the blue Pacific. Today, the City of Del Mar is two square miles of coastal land with a population of about 5000. The main attraction of visitors is still the beach and sunny weather. The City of Del Mar, has one of North County's most popular beaches. Wide, long, and blessed with several great surfing spots for both beginners and enthusiasts, Del Mar has year round appeal. Lying just north of Torrey Pines State Beach, Del Mar beach is a favorite for swimmers, walkers, surfers, body boarders, and even grunion hunters.
