Ribadesella is bordered on the north by the Cantabrian Sea, on the east by Llanes, on the south by Cangas de Onís and Parres, and on the west by Caravia.
Ribadesella is well known for a huge international canoe race (Descenso del Sella) on the river every August. You can rent canoes and do it yourself or take a tour down the river.
Behind the town are the Picos de Europa, craggy and mountainous they are a national treasure and great for walking, trekking, birdwatching and viewing wild animals. Not to mention simply taking in the stunning and breathtaking scenery.
Another highlight of Ribadesella are the prehistoric Tito Bustillo caves, discovered only in the 1960s, with prehistoric wall paintings..
Food is a feature in the town: local seafood, markets with homemade cheeses (try the blue cheese, Cabrales), smallgoods and crafts. One specialty is sidra, or apple cider. Try the truly magnificent tempranillos from the Rioja and Ribel de Doura areas.
