Las Negras is situated on the southeast tip of Spain 30Km from Almeria. Almeria has its own airport for both scheduled and charter flights. Las Negras is north of Almeria, in the heart of the Cabo de Gata Nature Park, situated on the Mediterranean Sea and hidden away behind the giant Punta Negra rock, from which the village gets its name.
In this, small village fishermen still sail out each night and bring in fresh fish for the local population the following morning. The unspoiled village has kept its authentic character because it is situated in the Cabo de Gata Nature Park where no building for mass tourism is permitted. A combination of limited accommodation, blue sea, beautiful beaches and lagoons all surrounded by spectacular nature, creates a particularly relaxed atmosphere.
The countryside around Las Negras is breathtaking and one of the best ways to appreciate the diversity and beauty of the natural scenery here is by foot. You can start exploring the area around the village using the many designated footpaths, which are in good condition and marked with spots of white paint on trees, rocks and posts.
A short detour to one of the sights or peacefully walking along the beach one usually ends up at the Manteka Bar for some small fresh fish dishes. Las Negras has many walking tours to offer.
There is a different Spain waiting for you in Las Negras if you too associate beaches and Spain with mass tourism and mass commerce. Even during the busiest month, the coast around Las Negras is an oasis of space, peace and tranquillity. The coast is composed of jagged cliffs, small hidden coves, and lagoons with sandy beaches. The pure waters are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and underwater photography. We have a very clean beach with our own natural swimming pool made from the small reef that juts out into the sea. Children and parents can bathe there safely.
