Abrantes
An old world little town of white houses and flower bedecked streets perched high above the north bank of Tagus, Abrantes occupies an exposed situation whiuch made it a keypoint in the defense of the old Beira provinces. Unitl now the town has been able to retain its originalcharachter in spite of some ugly new buildings. A local speciality is "Palha de Abrantes", a sweet egg floss.
