It is a part of the municipality of Zijpe, and lies about 13 km south of Den Helder. Until 1990, Callantsoog was a municipality; its area is now part of the municipalities of Zijpe, Den Helder, and Anna Paulowna.

Callantsoog has the oldest official nude beach of the country, dating from 1973. It is a sandy beach 1.5 km to the south.

Lovely to come, walking or biking. In Callantsoog is van alles te doen. In Callantsoog there is lots to do. So there are many events and excursions on the beach in a scenic area Zwanenwater. The village is full of activity with markets, music, cozy cafes, restaurants and terraces.
