Being entirely of volcanic origin Pantelleria has hot mineral springs and fumaroles which still testify a quiescent volcanic activity. Lying close to the main route from east to west through the Mediterranean, Pantelleria can be reached by ferries and hydrofoils from Trapani.

Pantelleria is well known for producing obscure, but highly regarded, sweet wines of a remarkable golden-apricot color, from the island's three wineries.
