Antigua & Barbuda were discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493. There are three islands - Antigua, Barbuda and Redonda - consisting of mostly low-lying limestone and coral islands with some higher volcanic areas. The islands have warm, steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbors, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef.
