In 1983 the West Parry Sound District Museum was incorporated as a non-profit organization. It evolved from a group of local citizens who were concerned that the rich history of the district be preserved and interpreted for generations to come. It was also recognized that a community Museum would enhance the quality of life in the area and provide a cultural resource to a wide spectrum of local residents. The commitment to the project was strengthened when it became apparent that the new Museum had potential as a significant tourist attraction. The current building opened for viewing in 1992 and serves the Town of Parry Sound and the entire West Parry Sound District. In 1999 the Museum took over operation of Tower Hill, the park in which the Museum is situated, and this space is dedicated to the exploration of natural history.
