Tierpark Hellabrunn

Tierpark Hellabrunn in Munich, Upper Bavaria, Germany | Zoo

First established on 01.08.1911, closed again in 1922 due to the economic crisis, re-opened in 1928, Hellabrunn became the worlds first Geo-Zoo. Its founder and first director over the next 40 years was Heinz Heck.
Hellabrunn is situated on the plains of the river Isar.
The site within the landscape conservation area of the Isar with its natural habitats is the perfect setting for breeding endangered species.
Hellabrunn offers its visitors a direct view of the animals without bars or fences similar to watching animals in the wild.
Our modern Zoological concept abstains from an extensive collection of different species on purpose.
It is orientated towards animal welfare. We intend to offer the visitor a special experience of nature and further the encounter of human and animal as the central part of this unique, global journey into the world of animals.
