Welcome to the South Bay Conservatory, Torrance !

The South Bay Conservatory is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to bringing aspiring artists of all ages and levels of ability into the rewarding environment of the performing arts. Founded in 1966 to provide Music instruction to students residing in the South Bay and surrounding communities, over the past 40 years the Conservatory expanded to include dance and Musical Theatre with a faculty of more than 30 accomplished professional Musicians, dancers, and educators who teach and perform throughout the greater Los Angeles area.



The South Bay Conservatory has two different Musical Theatre programs, each of which offers three productions each year, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Our Musical Theatre Production Company is generally for children ages 8 through 18 (though we make exceptions for some productions). Our director, Larry Watts, and our Music director, Tim Battle, both have many years of performance and production experience, as well as being excellent teachers, and we are lucky to have them teaching for us. This group now puts on full-length Musicals, with Broadway-quality costumes and professional-quality lights and sound. For the Spring and Fall productions, they rehearse three times a week, three hours each, for eight to ten weeks, ending with three performances in the lovely James R. Armstrong Theatre in the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. The Summer production is an intensive, four-week day camp program, followed by four performances. The location of the summer performances varies, depending on what facility is available.
