Siuslaw River Coffee Roasters is located in Old Town Florence, Oregon by the Highway 101 Bridge on the central coast. We are pleased to provide some of the greatest coffees from around the world and a sort of funky, pleasant atmosphere from our converted garage / outboard motor repair shop overlooking the bay. Our signature house blend, Bill's Auto, takes its name from the original mechanic and owner of the building. Although Bill Karnowski is gone now, we share his passion for doing our job right and having a little fun along the way, but we will not fly an airplane under the Highway 101 Bridge as Bill once reportedly did.
The coffees we roast may change from time to time because we buy only the best green beans that we can find. And, since we are relative purists when it comes to our beans, we do not add flavorings in our roasting process. "Don't goof around with the beans" is one of the refrains from our regular customers. We will leave that for you to do if that is the sort of thing you enjoy.
We use a Diedrich 30 pound roaster with digital temperature control to ensure consistent quality and repeatability throughout the roasting process. Because we are small and roast only as needed, our coffees are as fresh as they can be.
Many of the coffees we purchase from our broker are organically grown and/or are fair trade. However, we have not begun all of the work needed to obtain certifications. It is a fair amount of paperwork and something we plan to tackle when we have the time, but for now, alas, we can only call it "coffee".
Our location in the historic Old Town waterfront district is a favorite getaway for many people traveling along one of the most beautiful sections of coastline in the country. The view from our outdoor deck is of the Siuslaw River and the historic Highway 101 Bridge, completed in 1936. This is probably one of the most photographed locations on the Oregon coast, and we do not sell film.
When a high winter tide combines with a significant storm, our shop looks like it may just float away. The water extends almost completely under the entire structure. It is during this time of year that almost everyone we see is a local and those that are not may get a friendly kidding about visiting the Oregon coast in wintertime. There are just not a lot of visitors in the winter, but it is a special time for those of us that live here year around. The wood pellet stoves are fired up for heat and the rain beats a rhythm on the metal roof while friends gather for casual to serious discussions. We have solved most of the global problems from these tables, but nobody was taking notes.
