The Shetland Museum has a thriving programme of local contemporary art in its back gallery. These exhibitions normally change every three weeks. The Museum has a policy of making the gallery available for anyone and does not prejudge or select exhibitions for display. We believe that no matter the quality or standard of the work on display, creative expression should be encouraged. It also encourages the purchase of local art works by allowing art of various styles and prices to be made available.
Occasionally the Museum selects pieces from its exhibitions for the permanent collection.
