Sfakia Walks

Sfakia Walks in Sfakia, Chania, Greece | Tours and Safaris

Crete is becoming a very popular destination for walkers and it is easy to understand why: the combination of sea and mountains, the abundance of ancient paths and the clement weather will fulfil the expectations of everyone.

Specially the region of Sfakia offers a complete range of walks, from easy coastal walks to the most demanding hikes. Sfakia is in the southwest of Crete, bordering the Libyan Sea -or South Cretan Sea, if you like- and is home to the White Mountains -or Lefka Ori, or Madares as they are called locally. It's the largest mountain range of Crete, reaching a maximum height of 2543 m. on the summit of Mt. Pachnes and is unique because of its many gorges splitting the massive.

The most famous gorge in Sfakia is the Samaria gorge, the longest of Europe, visited every year by many thousands of tourists.

The programme that we are offering is different from most walking tours of this region on offer anywhere: we are offering walks which are easy enough for an average walker but take you to places that very few people know or would ever attempt on their own. Joining us you are going to see one of the most beautiful and virgin areas in Crete, far away from mass tourism. Jean, our 'walkmaster' will guide you from his vast experience in this area, both as a local resident and as an enthusiastic walker himself.

In this way, our programme is attractive to both newcomers to Crete and people who are very familiar with the region but probably do not know these walks.

And since we cooperate directly with the Sfakians we also can offer you a very fair price.
