Seafriends Marine Conservation and Education Centre - Goat Island Marine Reserve -The Cape Rodney to Okakari Point marine reserve is better known as the Goat Island marine reserve or Leigh Marine reserve. Since its creation in 1975, and official opening in 1977, it has been used extensively for scientific research, has helped as a Training ground for diving and has inspired many people who come to this magical place to enjoy the friendly fishes. Many schools come here each year to introduce students to the marvels and mysteries of our marine environment. This section extensively documents the first marine reserve of New Zealand, its history and marine environment, as well as where one can find good snorkel and dive spots. Many photos of the creatures that live here, illustrate the pages of this section.

The Poor Knights Marine Reserve - The Poor Knights Islands are New Zealand's most popular dive destination because they are located far from coastal pollution, in clear waters near the edge of the continental shelf. Yet they are easily reached by the many dive charters operating from Tutukaka and elsewhere. The Poor Knights are the remnants of an ancient volcano, with steep drop-offs, adventurous caves and archways. In this section we'll explore the island's distant and recent history, its ecology, its many underwater inhabitants and its many adventurous dive spots.

Kermadec Islands marine reserve - The Kermadec Islands, located about 1000 km north-east of New Zealand, are some of the most interesting places on this planet, mainly because of their isolation and because the world has very few island groups in the subtropical south. It is a place where the large seaweeds are absent and the corals just dare to grow. Dominated by volcanoes, located on the edge of the deep Kermadec Trench, a marine community has evolved, surviving the special conditions of this area. Raoul is its largest island with an active volcano.
