Rothay Manor in Ambleside, is an elegant Regency house built in 1825 as a private residence for a prosperous Liverpool merchant and still retains many original features.  Rothay Manor is a listed building and is set in attractive landscaped gardens a 1/4 mile from the head of Lake Windermere in the United Kingdom, and a short walk from the centre of Ambleside.   Fresh flowers and antiques give the feel of a welcoming private house and the lounges are ideal for relaxing over afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks.

Renowned for the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and efficient yet unobtrusive service, Rothay Manor has been personally managed by the Nixon family for 40 years.  Mentioned in all the major guides, Rothay Manor is one of only six establishments that has been listed in the Good Hotel Guide since it began.   Both lounges have wi-fi access which is available to our guests free of charge.

With 16 individually appointed bedrooms and 3 suites,  2 of which are in the grounds of the Hotel, there is accommodation to suit all needs. Families are welcome with rooms and suites available, together with cots, highchairs, baby -listening and an excellent High Tea menu.

Two bedrooms have been adapted for use by disabled guests earning the Hotel a Category 2 listing in the National Accessible Scheme.

Renowned for the excellent cuisine, Rothay Manor's  restaurant has 1 AA Rosette.  The varied menu is prepared and served with flair and imagination to the highest of standards, complemented by an extensive personally compiled wine list.

A private Dining Room and Lounge are available for private parties and special occasions, and we offer a Gift Letter Service for that perfect gift.
