Point Pinos Lighthouse

Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, Monterey County, United States | Attraction | Lighthouse | Tourism

Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, California, is located on a jagged rocky coastline, and has since 1855 been guiding seafarers to safety, hence its well-earned reputation of being the oldest operating Lighthouse on the West Coast. Point Pinos Lighthouse is owned and maintained by the Public Works Department and together with The Heritage Society of Pacific Grove has beautifully restored the Lighthouse and its grounds. The job of yesteryear's Lighthouse keeper was primarily to care for the all important light by daily cleaning of the light to avoid damage from soot buildup, and to keep the light burning in darkness and bad weather, and to cover it in good weather to save fuel.
