These tours are presented by pearl divers who spent many years living aboard pearling luggers and diving for Mother of Pearl shell. The tour is conducted in the Tenders Store which is fully air-conditioned and can seat 40 people. A small time – approx 15 minutes – is spent outside in full sun beside the vessels.
CONTENT
The insight covers the evolution of pearling and pearl diving in Broome and includes the demonstration of historic equipment, operation of a pearling lugger and entertaining insights and anecdotes. A choice of two historic pearling documentaries (1946 and 1972) of approx 12 minutes each may also be shown.
