Opal Resources Canada Inc is the operator of the first commercial opal mine in Canada. We conduct the cutting and setting of our opal gemstones at our cutting shop in Vernon, British Columbia.
Opal Resources Canada Inc operates Opal Miners Gift Shop, the primary distributor of Canadian precious opal product utilizing opal mined from the "Klinker Deposit" located 25kms north-west of Vernon, British Columbia, which is Canada's only commercially operated precious opal deposit.
All of the opals used are from the Klinker Deposit. The deposit is owned by Okanagan Opal Inc. and is operated by Opal Resources Canada Inc.
This compound, vertically integrated business is the first in Canada to produce and market Canadian precious opal gemstones and finished opal jewellery. Many of the settings are custom designed in-house.
Opal is a mineral composed of Silica with a water content SiO2.nH2O. The water content of opal can range from 3% to 20%.
Opal is believed to form as a result of precipitation from low temperature silica rich water solutions. The opal forming silica precipitates in an amorphous mass of closely packed "micro-spheres" which are generally random in size and randomly oriented.
