Niagara Historical Society and Museum in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Region, Canada | Museum

The Niagara Historical Society and Museum in Niagara on the Lake, was founded in 1895 to encourage the study of the History and Literature of Canada, to collect and preserve Canadian historical records and relics, and to build Canadian loyalty and patriotism.
Under the determined and devoted leadership of Janet Carnochan, sufficient funds were gathered to start the construction of Memorial Hall.
Memorial Hall was the first building in Ontario designed solely for the use as an historical Museum. Its doors opened to the public on June 4th, 1907. The Museum possesses one of Ontario's best local history collections. With military, decorative arts and social history material that is shows the determination of the people of Niagara on the Lake and the uniqueness of the town's history.
Documents, images and artefacts from the early settlement of Ontario, the War of 1812 up to the development of industry and fruit growing in Niagara and the culture of tourism are represented in the collection on display at Niagara Historic Society and Museum, and with our current collecting policies.
Niagara Historical Society and Museum is available to do research or assist researchers. Researchers must book an appointment prior to visiting the Museum.
