The Newark Museum operates, as it has since its founding, in the public trust as a Museum of service, and a leader in connecting objects and ideas to the needs and wishes of its constituencies.  We believe that at The Newark Museum our art and science collections have the power to educate, inspire and transform individuals of all ages, and the local, regional, national and international communities that we serve.  In the words of founding Director John Cotton Dana, "A good Museum attracts, entertains, arouses curiosity, leads to questioning - and thus promotes learning."
The Newark Museum, a not-for-profit Museum of art, science and education, receives operating support from the City of Newark, the State of New Jersey, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State,  partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Jersey Cultural Trust, the Prudential Foundation, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, the Victoria Foundation, the Wallace Foundation, and other corporations, foundations and individuals.  Funds for acquisitions and activities other than operations are provided by members and other contributors.
