The Ramskop Nature Reserve at the dam is home to endemic wild flower species and a famous visiting spot in August and September.
Wild flowers abound in the valley that is overlooked by the magnificent Cederberg mountains to the east. Renowned for its bizarre rock formations, the Cederberg is a playground of giant boulders full of ancient bushman paintings, caverns and tunnels.

It is the centre of various flower (August & September) and historical routes, Hiking trials and rock art viewing. Once a year there occurs an awe-inspiring natural phenomenon which reminds us of the wonders of nature, an occurrence that attracts visitors from all over the world who come to enjoy and be humbled by its spectacular splendour..... the spring wildflowers of the Western Cape and Namaqualand. The Clanwilliam Wildflower Show takes place in a lovely old church building, built by Carl Otto Hager in 1864.and was declared a national monument in 1978. Huge rocks are used to create a little mountain inside the building. Once soil is added, a realistic landscape typical of the region is developed. Only plants and flowers that grow in the Clanwilliam district are displayed. They're carefully selected by people who know exactly how to pick them, and who have special permits to do so. About 350 species from 32 families are displayed, some found nowhere else in the world.

This heart of the Rooibos world includes farming in fruit, vegetables and is known for its velskoen (handmade hide shoes) factory, Strassbergers.

A visit to the factory is worthwhile, and shoes can be bought from them in any size and colour.
