The Minikahda Club

The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, United States | Golf Club

Welcome to Minikahda Club, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The Minikahda Club has a long and colorful history dating back to 1898, when the key founding fathers, C.T. Jaffray, a powerful and respected financial figure in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Martin Koon, William Edgar, Walter Tiffany and Harry Thayer started the club. The name Minikahda comes from the Sioux, a combination of two Indian words meaning "by the side of the water." The club logo in fact, depicts an Indian shield, similar to the original artifact framed in the clubhouse.
While the purpose for establishing The Minikahda Club in 1898 was the founders' desire to play the newly popular game of golf, it was not long after the clubhouse was finished that the members decided that the beautiful overlook above Lake Calhoun would be a perfect setting to watch and play tennis. The first tennis courts were approved by the board in 1904 and a contract to build two "turf" courts was let in 1905 for a hefty sum of $525.
In 1935, 111 Minikahda members had subscribed $30,000 to build a swimming pool with the intention of increasing family involvement at the Club. It has certainly done so.
