Lost at Sea Memorial

Lost at Sea Memorial in Murrells Inlet, Georgetown County, United States | Museum

Lost at Sea Memorial Johnny W. Brown, 38 years old, had been a fisherman out of Murrells Inlet for over 20 years. He was deaf but most say he was one of the best fishermen around. On April 2, 2005 the sea took Johnny from us. He was fishing aboard the Tracie Lynn with Tony Bessent and Gary McCombs when a 30-40 foot wave hit the boat and destroyed it. Tony and Gary were rescued but sadly Johnny was never found. As a tribute to Johnny and others lost at sea, his family has joined forces with Murrells Inlet 2007 to build a memorial in Murrells Inlet. The family will host Lost at Sea Memorial services each year to add names to the memorial for those lost at sea. You can meet the family at upcoming events in Murrells Inlet and also visit their website for more information. The Lost at Sea Memorial monument has been placed at Morse Park Landing. It is located at the south end of Murrell's Inlet on Highway 17 Business. The monument will be facing the jetties.
