Outside of Stilbaai in the Western Cape of South Africa lies Klipfontein Country Cottages with the Shepherd's Hut, said to be amongst the oldest buildings in the area, and once the focal point of activity on Klipfontein Farm.

A view away from the water pools of the Goukou River, the hut stands in a tranquil setting next to the old dorsvloer (threshing floor) - today only a meditative circle of stones.

The Klipfontein Country Cottages situated on the Farm is part of a private Nature Reserve, boasting all the Eco-systems of the Southern Cape/Western Cape. In this Bird Paradise, indigenous plants, true to their natural habitat, grow within metres of each other, separated only by the dividing lines of nature according to soil type. Existing buck tracks have been opened up as Walks through the Fynbos.

Klipfontein Country Cottages consists of two Stones Cottages, although only 500 meters away from the Main Dwelling, are completely private. From the stoeps of these Cottages you could enjoy the changing moods of the valley below, listen to the silence and find yourself again. In the night sky the stars are brighter than you have ever seen before.

Gas cookers, fridges and hot showers are the mod cons, while friendly fireplaces, lamping and flickering candles add to the atmosphere at night.
The Cottages have a minimum 2 nights booking and sleeps 2 adults.

The Main House is well restored and placed between two large dams, fed by springs. Adequate land is available for specialised cultivation, although plenty natural crops such as thatch and fynbos with decorative or medicinal value awaits harvesting and marketing. The Farm has untapped potential as an eco-tourist destination and as a guest Farm retreat.

If you can tear yourself away from the Farm there are plenty to do in and around Stilbaai along the Western Cape coastline:
Whale watching (mid June to October).
Historical and architectural heritage, such as the two National monuments: the Palinggat and Jagersbosch homesteads.
Botanical gardens in Palingkloof and at Melkhoutfontein.
Nature Reserves: Pauline Bohnen, Geelkrans and private reserves.
Tame hand-fed eels viewed at the tourism Bureau at 11h00 daily, except Sundays.
Fish traps constructed by Strandlopers and visible at low tide.
Various sporting amenities: Golf, bowls, squash, tennis, horse riding (in season), water sports, fishing, angling and scuba diving. Bird watching.
Hiking routes and leisure Walks.
Local art route and Soete Arbeid, the tourist craft workshop at Melkhoutfontein.
Jongensfontein - Situated about 12km west of Still Bay, this fast growing seaside resort offers breathtaking scenery and a rocky coastline.
