Kelsick's Educational Foundation

Kelsick's Educational Foundation in Ambleside, Cumbria, United Kingdom | Comunity Development

Kelsick's Educational Foundation in Ambleside, exists to provide financial support to individuals, schools and groups under the terms of the Will of Ambleside's greatest benefactor, John Kelsick, who bequeathed land in trust in 1723 to provide education for the young people of the town. The original bequest grew in value and the Kelsick's income today is derived from approved capital investments, from the hire of the Kelsick Centre and from the rent paid by tenants on 47 properties, managed and maintained by the Kelsick's property subcommittee. These include commercial premises and residential properties which raise revenue to give back to the community in the form of educational grants.

Kelsick's Educational Foundation
is at the heart of village life of Ambleside. It provides a spacious, comfortable and convenient venue on the level, in the centre of Ambleside, and is used by all ages for a wide range of activities.

The building has full access for wheelchair users and there are Ladies and Gentlemen's toilets available at both ends of the building, and a disabled persons toilet on the ground floor at the south end. King Street car park is 100 metres from The Kelsick's Educational Foundation, and there is on street disc parking nearby and space in front of the building for off-loading. Many groups have been happily accommodated at the Kelsick Centre for many years, including Ambleside Day Care centre four days each week.  Other uses include public meetings, lectures, slideshows, toddler and playgroup sessions, yoga and line-dancing. The Kelsick Centre is also home to Ambleside Horticultural and Craft Society's Daffodil and Spring Flower Show; Ambleside Cancer Care's weekly drop-in session, and to Ambleside Players, whose twice yearly productions take place in the Hall.
