Good stuff reached our desks at JazzRadio Ltd in the last couple of weeks and here's another rundown of what's to come at your favorite jazz radio station in Berlin.
Let's start with the singers and two vocalists which we brought over to Berlin in recent years. Karrin Allyson has consistently released quality stuff ever since her 1993 debut CD and now finally, she recorded a full CD with Brazilian songs. She had always recorded some brazilian stuff on past albums and now the good thing is that she didn't opt for the obvious standards but chose lesser known tunes. Imagina:Songs of Brazil is a must-have CD not only if you're into Brazilian Music, but vocals as well. Listen to her beautiful rendition of the Bonfá/Jobim classic Correnteza and you know exactly what I mean.
Singer and pianist Daryl Sherman has been a friend of JazzRadio Ltd ever since one of our visits to NY in the 90s. She now has a sensationally good CD out on the fine Audiophile label called New O'Leans covering, you guessed it, songs about and for the Crescent City. Daryl is in great form throughout and whether it's the Louis Armstrong classic Red Cap or the Arthur Johnston penned title track, this charming singer shows yet again what true Musicianship and inventive repertoire is all about.
Brazilian living legend Sergio Mendes is back with another smash CD called Encanto. He was in Berlin recently to talk about his new album and you might have heard already the Bacharach classic The Look Of Love with a catchy Fergie on vocals. Elsewhere on the album which was recorded in Brazil with guest Musicians recorded all over the world, you'll hear Natalie Cole, Herb Alpert, Till Brönner, Ledisi, or Siedah Garrett. This is definitely the soundtrack of the summer of 2008 and will not leave your stereo for a while. It's on heavy rotation on our Saturday show JazzRio which you can hear from 12 to 6PM CET. Sergio will play this year's Northsea Jazz Festival in July.
