Garibaldi Restaurant

Garibaldi Restaurant in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom | Italian Cuisine

Situated in the picturesque coastal village of Tynemouth in what until August 2000 was a run down railway station building is the popular Italian Garibaldi Restaurant, Tynemouth, United Kingdom.

The building has been respectfully restored, the windows, used by Victorian ticket masters, are as they were. There is no Signor Garibaldi in the kitchen of The Garibaldi Restaurant or anywhere else in the restaurant. The connection with Garibaldi is a historical one. Garibaldi was already a hero to the working men of Tyneside who, when they heard of his arrival in the area, raised a penny subscription and with the money bought a telescope and a gold-hilted sword on which was inscribed, "To General Garibaldi by the people Tyneside friends of European freedom" Joseph Cowen, son of local Blaydon brick manufacturer, in his presentation speech, said "The sword is purchased by the men, contributed not only voluntarily but with enthusiasm and each penny represents a heart that beats true to European freedom" In the spirit of true Italian hospitality , Garibaldi offers good food, friendly, efficient service in terrific surroundings.

The Garibaldi Restaurant prides itself on its exclusive wine list due to forward thinking of its wine buyer. For a light lunch, dinner for two, an office party, an engagement, wedding or Christening reception, Garibaldi has the experience to make any occasion a memorable one.
