Welcome to the Florida Retina Institute, Orlando, Florida, United States. Florida Retina Institute is a vitreo-retinal specific ophthalmologic practice headquartered in Florida. It was incorporated in 1979 by its founder James A. Staman, M.D. In 1991, William J. Dunn, M.D. and Raul J. Moreno, M.D. joined the practice followed by John P. Sullivan, M.D. in 1993. Most recently, Thomas A. Barnard, M.D. came on board in July, 1998 and Elias C. Mavrofrides, M.D. in August, 2004.
All six Florida Retina Institute physicians are fellowship trained and board certified. They have participated in national studies regarding the efficacy of silicon oil, and most recently, photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of age related macular degeneration.
Florida Retina Institute treats its patients from eighteen offices in Florida and Georgia. In Florida, there are three full-time, fully staffed offices located in Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, and Lake Mary. Other Florida offices include Fernandina Beach, St. Augustine, Palatka, Titusville, Starke, Orange City, Palm Coast, Kissimmee, Orlando, Mount Dora, Fruitland Park and an additional satellite office in Jacksonville. Southeast Georgia patients are provided for in our Brunswick and Waycross offices.
