Fishing in Korcula, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Croatia | Fishing
Most of the people from the island of Korcula, Croatia, fish the area surrounding the island while some, more experienced dare to sail to the Island of Lastovo, Mljet and Glavat. Locals mainly fish in small or large Fishingboats. Lot of families in the town of Korcula have a boat, locally called barka and occasionally everybody goes Fishingfor sheer fun and companionship.
There is a local Fishingassociation called 'KANJAC' - a society that in the summers organize a yearly Fishingcompetition. On 27th of July every year, anybody can enter competition and possibly win some nice prices. If you come and have a look at Korcula harbour, you will see a lot of boats owned by local people, used for Fishingand excursions around the local islands Skoji.
If one has no boat, one can fish from the shore too. There are various good spots for angle Fishing, such as Riva (harbour in front of Hotel Korcula) or Nova Riva - Punta Jurana (harbour on the easter side of Korcula Old Town).
There is a Fishingshop in Korcula right in the very centre of Korcula Town where one can buy various Fishingequipment - bites, floats, angles, hooks, Fishingrods, etc. There are some people who are willing to take you Fishingwith them too - look for Mr Ratko or Mr Sokol - a local hobby Fishermen who does Fishingexcursions too.
