Welcome to Falun Mine and the Falun World Heritage site in Falun, Dalarna County in Sweden.

Falun in Dalarna County was added to the World Heritage List at the meeting of Unesco?s World Heritage Committee in Helsinki on 13 December 2001. The Falun World Heritage site consists of three parts: The Mine Landscape, The Urban Landscape and the Master Miner?s Landscape.

Unesco?s citation read: ?The historical industrial landscape surrounding Stora Kopparberget (the Great Copper Mountain) and Falun constitutes one of the most outstanding areas of mining and the production of metals. The mining operation was closed down at the end of the twentieth century, but for hundreds of years it had exerted a strong influence on technical, social and political developments in Sweden and other European countries.?

Guided tour of Falun Mine
Exciting new entrance to Falun Mine!
Experience the exciting new route down into the underground and the visitor?s mine. Here you discover a world of winding steps, huge underground chambers and impressive sunk shafts.

The temperature in the mine is about +5 degrees Celsius all year round. We recommend robust, warm clothes and boots since there is a risk of getting stains on trouser legs and footwear. The tour goes via a stair tower with a view of the Great Pit, down into the mine to a depth of 67 metres below ground level. Return to the surface by lift. The walk through the mine is about 700 metres, of which 150 metres is steps. The tour last one hour.

Closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year?s Eve and New Year?s Day. Programmes for children and families and extra Tours during school holidays and major public holidays.
