Erie Planetarium - United States

The  Erie Planetarium was added to the Public Museum, which occupied the Watson-Curtze Mansion, in 1959 as a response to the county's interest in science education and the space race. In 1979 the Erie Public Museum was renamed the Erie Historical Museum and the focus narrowed to collecting and exhibiting the history of the Erie area. The Museum continued to operate the Planetarium as a science component and as an additional way to serve students and the visiting public of the Erie region. On January 1, 2000, the Erie Historical Museum Planetarium merged with the Erie County Historical Society.

The Junior League of Erie opened the Erie Planetarium in the carriage house of the Watson-Curtze Mansion in 1959.

The Erie Planetarium offers many different programs, which are designed for audiences of all ages.
