The Door Café and Art House Cinema in Lyttelton, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand | Restaurant

In 2003 a funky, vibrant café opened in the front area of The Door. A movie screen was installed and art house movies shown. The informal atmosphere of being able to watch movies while sitting in front of a log burner, sipping excellent coffee, is unique for a cinema. Local film makers, as well as film school students have shown their productions here. Most days, music and surfing movies would be playing in the background, adding to the ambience and character of the café. An upstairs mezzanine floor adds extra seating.
