Mystic Lady Mirror at The Carron Art Deco Restaurant, Stonehaven, ScotlandPicasso Mystery Mirror

One of the first things you notice on arrival at The Carron is the stunning centrepiece – a 9ft mirror etched with a naked lady, surrounded by thousands of tiny silver mosaic tiles. The origins of the mirror, an extremely risqué piece of period art for the 1930s era, has mystified people ever since.

Rumour suggests that the mirror is a rare example of the work of Pablo Picasso and Chef Proprietor Robert Cleaver is hoping to solve the mystery once and for all. He has appealed to art experts to visit the premises and give their verdict. Robert says “ It is not known how the mirror came to hang in the building", but he says that the previous owner had it insured for £150,000. "It is quite exciting but if it is found to be a Picasso, as part of a Grade A listed building, I would not be able to take it down and sell it”. Even after all these years the mystery of the Mystic Lady continues to intrigue guests of The Carron Restaurant.
