American Sun Electric (formerly American SunCo, Inc.) was originally founded by inventor and scientist Miles Maiden of Blue Hill, Maine out of an interest in solar energy systems. The company primarily focused on solar tracking devices, and was funded by grants from the United States Department of Energy and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. American Sun also gained contracts from the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Airforce. The company also was involved in residential and commercial solar PV array design, with installation and certification being carried out by Terry Wessel of Wessel Electric, Inc. budding a professional relationship.
